Use knowledge to improve judgement, not confidence alone

Learning colony biology and insect identification helps readers ask better questions, but it does not make online diagnosis reliable. Similar signs can have different causes, and unusual behaviour may involve weather, forage, queen status, disease, pesticides or another insect species. Records and local observation should be taken to an experienced mentor or inspector.

Use precise language

Distinguish managed honey bees from native bees, wasps and hornets. Avoid describing every pollinator concern as “saving the bees,” because different species need different habitat and management choices.

Call emergency services for breathing difficulty, throat swelling, collapse, widespread reaction or immediate public danger.
